Butternut is not suitable for dogs with leishmania sadly. The medication needed for this condition can affect the metabolic digestion of purines, which means these dogs need a low purine diet. Due to the lentils, offal meat and peas in our meals they are more purine rich.
Kidney issues can also occasionally occur as a result of leishmania and so in some cases dogs with the condition need a low protein and/or low phosphorus diet.
