All of the meals that we make are free from grain and don’t contain any added sugars which makes them a great fit if your dog suffers with yeast infections.
Yeast infections in dogs are almost always caused by a type of yeast (called Malassezia pachydermatis). This is very different the Brewer's Yeast that we add to our recipes - the two types are completely separate and don't affect each other. (It’s a little bit like having Athlete's Foot (lovely). It doesn’t mean you have to stop eating Marmite, which is made from yeast).
Yeast infections often cause a smell, itchiness and discomfort in your dog's ears, skin folds around their face, armpits and between their toes. It can be quite common in dogs with long ears like Cocker Spaniels and Cockapoos, Westies or Labradors after swimming. Yeast likes two things to grow - warm moist environments (eg. sweaty feet) and sugar as an energy source from food.
If your dog has a yeast infection, it’s likely that your vet will recommended an anti-fungal shampoo or medicated wipes to help bring the yeast level down to normal again. We'd recommend that you follow your vet’s advice with this, as is possible your dog may have bouts of yeast infections in future. With shampoos, wipes and our grain-free, low-sugar food these infections can be managed really well.
