Dogs suffering with liver disease should ideally eat a diet which contains:
- easily digestible proteins
- good quality fibre
- lots of antioxidants
- good levels of zinc and vitamin K
- low levels of sodium
- restricted levels of copper
Butternut covers almost all these bases, but the lentils and liver we include in our recipes are rich in copper - this means we might not be the best fit in your dog's case which is a real shame. Your vet might be able to give you some advice for a specific diet for them and we really hope you're able to find something that works well for you both.
If your dog is at the stage where they're refusing any other food, including a veterinary diet, Butternut could be a good alternative - when a dog is very unwell it's better that they eat something nutritious and free from any nasties rather than nothing at all.
