Megaesophagus is a condition where a dog's oesophagus is enlarged and loses motility which causes difficulty in swallowing food and water down into their stomach. Dogs who suffer from this condition can find it hard to maintain or gain body weight as they struggle to consume enough calories to do so and will often regurgitate their meals. Poor pooches.
The good news is that pet parents who choose to use Butternut to feed their dogs with megaesophagus have reported excellent results in terms of their weight gain and overall wellbeing due to the high digestibility and palatability of our meals. Many pet parents have had success with blending our meals with a little warm water to create a consistency that's easy to swallow, but not too liquidy that they might inhale it. Some vets may recommend that you employ the use of something called a Bailey chair, which can also aid in feeding your dog.
