Why Am I Seeing Two Charges on My Account?

Advice to Help If You've Noticed Duplicate Payments

Updated over 11 months ago

Although it doesn’t happen often, there might be times when you spot two charges on your account. If that ever happens, don’t worry—there are a couple of simple explanations for this.

Shadow payments

When this does happen the most common thing you’re seeing is likely a "shadow payment." This means the payment either hasn’t actually been taken from your bank or, if it has, it’ll bounce back into your account within a few days. This can occasionally happen during payment authorisation, where instead of capturing the initial authorisation, a new charge is created for the final amount.

Rest assured, the authorisation charge will drop off within a few days and be returned to your account.

Refund for a recipe surcharge

If we’ve had to substitute one of your recipes with a lower-priced option, we’ll refund you the cost of the original surcharge.

If this refund is issued shortly after the initial payment, it’s considered a “reversal” rather than a refund. Because of this, you might see a second “pending” payment in your bank account while your bank processes the reversal.
