Deliveries During Extreme Weather

Managing Delivery Impacts During Adverse Weather Conditions

Updated over 2 months ago

We understand how important it is for your dog's food to arrive on time! At Butternut, we always work closely with our courier partners to ensure your delivery reaches you as quickly and safely as possible, even when facing challenging conditions.

How Extreme Weather Can Impact Your Delivery

In the event of extreme weather, such as heavy snow, widespread ice, or severe rainfall, deliveries may occasionally be impacted. This can cause unavoidable delays in some regions, as the safety of our couriers and the swift arrival of your food is our top priority.

Monitoring Your Butternut Box

  • Close Monitoring: We monitor all deliveries closely from the moment they leave our facility until they reach your door.

  • Proactive Updates: If there is any issue or update that might affect your specific delivery date, we will always reach out to you directly to let you know as soon as we're made aware.

Ensuring Food Safety During Delivery Delays

We take great care when packing your Butternut Box to ensure maximum freshness. Your food is protected against potential delays, which is a key priority for us.

  • 50-Hour Transit Safety: Your meals are packed to remain safe for up to 50 hours in transit from the time they are dispatched from our kitchen.

  • Checking Your Meals: Even if slightly delayed, if your meals arrive within this 50-hour timeframe, they will be safe to feed to your dog and safe to refreeze, provided they are cold to the touch upon opening the box.

  • More Information: For a detailed guide on what to do if your pouches are thawing, please read our article on Defrosted Pouches on Arrival.

  • Concerns: If you have any concerns whatsoever about a delivery delay or the temperature of your food upon arrival, please feel welcome to reach out to our team immediately. You can find all the ways to contact us in our dedicated guide: Contacting Customer Love.

Adjusting Your Order Due to Forecasted Severe Weather

If you are aware of forecasted severe weather in your local area, you have two options for managing your order:

1. Delaying Your Delivery Before the Cut-Off

  • If your order has not yet reached the cut-off time, you can easily adjust your delivery date yourself. We recommend choosing a new delivery date that aligns with when the weather forecast indicates that routes have started to clear.

  • How to Adjust: You can make this change directly within your online Butternut account settings.

2. Keeping Your Current Delivery Date

  • If you would prefer to keep your current delivery date, or if the order cut-off has already passed, we will do our absolute best to get your box to you as planned.

  • Please be aware that there may still be some delays due to the weather, which we will adapt and work with our couriers to manage to the best of our ability.
