Sometimes pet parents ask us whether they need to make any special considerations when transitioning their dog from a raw diet over to freshly cooked Butternut meals. Our expert vets and nutritionists have assured us that dogs can eat and digest different food types at the same time, at the same sitting, even in the same bowl. Happy days.
Your dog can eat Butternut with raw meats, kibble, and canned food; eating these foods together isn't dangerous and there's no difference in digestion rates. Just like we might enjoy a raw steak tartare with cooked vegetables, followed by frozen ice-cream for dessert, our dogs' stomachs can cope just as well.
When transitioning your dog from a raw diet onto Butternut, we recommend you follow the same steps as when transitioning from dry or canned food. Their existing raw food can be mixed with Butternut in the same bowl at mealtimes, and we simply recommend that you gradually decrease the amount of raw food and increase the amount of Butternut they're eating each day over the course of about a week.
Raw food naturally contains bacteria that aren't present in our cooked meals (our gentle cooking process naturally kills these), but mixing the two won't affect the number of these bacteria.
Some pet parents like to warm up their dog's Butternut meals (they smell even more like mum's Sunday roast). We don't recommend warming Butternut and raw food together as this changes the raw food's bacterial levels - serve these dishes in separate bowls instead.
Thousands of dogs have made the transition from raw to Butternut but if you have any questions, you can get in touch with our Customer Love team and they'll be happy to help.
Please note these are feeding guidelines only. We understand you know your pooch best so it's totally understood that you may need to make some changes to suit them.
