Understanding Calories in Butternut Meals & Portion Guidelines

Butternut meals contain an average of 130 calories per 100g. This is an average calculated across all of our current recipes.*

Our feeding guidelines also take this average into account when recommending your dog's portion size. For dogs who only receive our leaner meals in their plan, the average calorie content will be slightly lower and you may need to increase the portion size accordingly. You can see which of our recipes are low in fat on the 'Our products' page of the website.

*There may be some natural variation in the average per batch.

Providing a Complete Butternut Diet

Our fresh Butternut meals give your pup everything they need. If you’re feeding Butternut only, just follow the links above to keep their plan on track and simply adjust as needed.

Mixing Butternut with Other Foods: A Guide

If you're mixing Butternut with other foods, you can choose how much Butternut to feed them, and our app will adjust to your chosen plan—showing how many calories should be left for their other food.

To check the calories in their other food, take a look at the packaging (usually on the side or back). If it’s not there, the brand’s website should have the details—most list calories (kcal) per 100g to help you work out the right amount.

And of course, you know your pup best! If something isn’t quite right, feel free to tweak things gradually to find the perfect balance.

Guidance for Adjusting Portions During Transition

If you're not using the full amount of food set on your plan temporarily—such as when transitioning your dog gradually—you can still use the calorie information above for additional guidance if needed.

Example:

We recommend your dog gets 260kcal per day. You've chosen a full plan with 200g pouches, which provide around 260kcal each, so your account assumes you're feeding them a full pouch.

Since you're gradually transitioning, you've chosen to currently feed them half a pouch (130kcal) a day. You'll need to get the other 130kcal from their current food.

Note: Our pouches stay fresh for up to two days in the fridge once opened. Just pop them in some tupperware to keep them fresh!
