Your Trial Box

What's Inside Your Trial Box & How It Works

Updated over 2 weeks ago

So, you've ordered your first box of Butternut meals - yay! You're probably wondering what happens next...

What is a trial box?

A trial box is the first box of meals you receive from us. It's designed to give you and your dog a chance to see how Butternut works and whether it will be a good fit for you both. For this reason, we always provide this box at the start of any subscription and this cannot be skipped.

Depending on your plan, this will either be a 7-day trial meaning you'll receive 7 days' worth of meals or a 14-day trial which means you'll receive 14 days' worth of meals.

You can choose which of our recipes to have in the trial when you sign up. If your dog doesn’t have any allergies or health concerns, we recommend a mixture so that they can try each one and decide on their favourites! You can then tweak your preferences for future boxes.

Please note: We now take payment for your trial box when you complete the sign-up process. This means that once payment has been taken, we're not able to cancel or edit the first box. Once you receive the trial box, you can stop or delay boxes as often as you need to.

How quickly can I get my trial box?

Our trial boxes are usually delivered within one day! We want you and your dog to get your paws on our food as quickly as possible, so we aim for next day deliveries once you've signed on as a new customer.

What's included in the trial box?

Alongside the meals, you will also receive:

  • a handy Welcome Booklet with advice on how to transition your dog onto Butternut, as well as other key information about the subscription

  • some referral cards to hand out to friends and family with your unique referral code, meaning you get a discount off your next box if they sign-up using your code

  • a recipe card with a QR code you can scan to see the full nutritional and ingredient breakdown of your chosen recipes

What happens after the trial box is delivered?

Clean bowls and wagging tails all round.

After you receive your trial box, you have complete control over your dog's plan and deliveries. You can log in to your online account, or the Butternut App, at any time to make changes and update your preferences. This includes managing your deliveries, changing your recipe selection or pouch size, and ordering additional products such as treats.

Your second box will automatically be delivered 7 or 14 days after your trial box (depending on whether you received the 7 or 14-day day trial).*

If you decide not to go ahead with regular orders, or if you'd like a bit of time to think about it, that's no problem. The subscription is super flexible and you can stop or delay boxes as often as you need to.

*Please note, the cut-off for cancelling or making changes to a box is usually 11pm two days before delivery. We are unable to cancel or make changes to a box after the cut-off has passed.

What If I My Dog Doesn't Like The Meals In The Trial Box?

No worries at all — we’ve got your back (and your pup’s tummy)! If your dog isn’t loving the meals in their trial box, our Fussy Eater Guarantee means you’re covered. Just let us know within 10 days of receiving your trial box, and we’ll either:

  • Send out some new recipes for your pup to try,

  • Share some tailored tips to help with the transition,

  • Or, if needed, offer a potential refund for those first meals.

We’re here to help you find the perfect fit for your furry friend!

Don't forget to also check out our Fussy Eater Quick Tips to help lend a paw in the meantime.

Important Note: This offer is only available if our team are notified within 10 days of you receiving your trial box. Please also keep an eye on when your next box is due and ensure to push this back if needed before the cut-off for that order.
