Mixed Plans & Keeping Costs Down

Enjoying Butternut but Need Help with Costs? Here Are Some Tips to Help

Updated over a week ago

We have some great options for helping to keep costs down, while still giving your dog the benefits of a fresh Butternut diet.

Mixed Plans

Many of our customers have found mixed plans to be an ideal compromise. By feeding a smaller amount of Butternut topped up with other food at home, your plan will work out a bit cheaper - but your dog can still enjoy our tasty meals. For example, you could feed Butternut for breakfast and another food at dinnertime, or mix different foods in the bowl.

If you are looking to feed your dog on a mixed plan, our app will adapt to show you an estimated amount of calories needed from other food when you update your plan. You can see how to view this here. Additionally, we have some further guidance on calories and managing a mixed plan in this article, if you'd like further advice.

Decreasing Delivery Frequency

Another option is to have bigger deliveries less frequently. The more pouches you buy the more cost-effective the plan is. It also means you pay for delivery less often. For example, you can compare the following options:

28 x 400g meals delivered every 28 days = £2.70 per day*

42 x 400g meals delivered every 42 days = £2.54 per day*

(*before any surcharge is applied)

Splitting One Pouch Across Two Days

If your dog needs 300g of food per day per day it works out cheaper to receive 14 x 600g pouches every 28 days than 28 x 300g pouches every 28 days.

You would just need to feed half a pouch per day and pop the rest in the fridge overnight. Our meals are safe in the fridge for up to two days once opened, and we would recommend keeping them in Tupperware for freshness.

Adapt Their Recipe Selection

The recipes which come with a surcharge are Wham Bam Lamb, You've Got Game, Gobble Gobble Turkey and Beef It Up. If you have these in your dog's recipe selection but you're looking to cut down costs and your pup isn't fussy, you can choose out of our other recipes that don't have surcharges.

The subscription is super flexible, so you can delay boxes as often as you need to. You can also order one-off boxes if your subscription is stopped, without reactivating the account.
