Here at Butternut, we believe dogs deserve better. We created our flexible subscription service to help pet parents feed their dogs meals that are top quality, pre-portioned, and delivered to their door. Nice.

So, how does it work?

We're an online subscription so you need to create an account on our website by clicking 'Build Your Box.' This is what you will use to manage your subscription moving forward. We'll ask you some questions about your dog (or dogs), then recommend a bespoke plan for them. You can choose which of our recipes you would like to receive, and we will deliver them pre-portioned directly to your door.

Do you have any tips and advice to help me with signing up?

To ensure your sign-up process goes as smoothly as a walk in the park, there are a few key steps to follow when creating your account.

Review Discounts: If you are using a discount link, ensure the offer has been successfully applied at the final checkout. If it isn't showing, you should be able to enter this code manually, and you will need to do so before the checkout is complete in order to claim it. Note that only one offer can be used per person.

Read and Ensure you Understand the T&Cs: During the sign-up process, you will be shown our Terms and Conditions. It is important to understand what you are signing up for and agreeing to, so please ensure you review these Terms and Conditions before ticking the confirmation box. Once you complete this, it will then allow you to proceed with completing your sign-up.

Troubleshoot Accounts: If the website informs you that an account already exists, you likely created an account previously. You can find your way back by resetting your password to log in.

How often do I get deliveries?

When you sign up to Butternut, you’ll choose how often you’d like your dog’s boxes delivered. We’ll take care of the rest and set up your subscription to match that schedule. But before the regular boxes start rolling in, we’ll send you a special trial box. It’s a smaller box that gives your pup a chance to transition to the meals and lets you ensure they love their new tasty recipes. The trial box is part of your plan and can’t be skipped — it’s our way of making sure you and your dog are 100% happy before we send out the bigger orders.

Please note: If, after your trial box arrives, you decide you'd like to make changes to your plan, just keep in mind that your next box will be automatically scheduled to arrive either 7 or 14 days later, depending on your plan and pouch size. To make sure we can update everything for you in time, please make any changes before the next box’s cut-off time.

You can edit your delivery frequency in your account (we deliver anywhere from every 7 days to every 56 days, depending on how much food your dog needs and how much storage space you have). You can also change individual box delivery dates, so you can bring them forward or push them back as needed.

How much food do I get?

You will receive 14 days' worth of food in your trial box, or 7 days' worth if you have a bigger breed that needs 800g per day or more. After this, it's more cost-effective and eco-friendly to receive bigger deliveries (for example, 21 or 28 days' worth), but you can always edit your preferences in your account.

Most dogs need one pouch per day, which can be split across several meals. For bigger breeds or plans with multiple dogs, you may need more than one pouch. Details of how much to feed per day can be found on the 'My Plan' page of your account.

How do I store the meals?

The meals are delivered frozen, so they will need to be stored in the freezer, then defrosted overnight in the fridge before serving. We recommend keeping one freezer drawer free for a Butternut delivery. You can also store a few meals in the fridge for up to a week or two days in the fridge once opened, kept safely in some Tupperware.

How much does it cost?

Because our plans are bespoke, the price depends on the amount of food, the delivery frequency and which recipes you choose. You can see a rough estimate by clicking 'Build Your Box' and entering your dog's details before you get to the checkout.

How do I pay for my boxes?

You can either pay with a credit/debit card or PayPal. If you choose card payment or PayPal, your boxes will be charged at the cut-off point for each delivery. You will not need to check out each time, as the payment will automatically be taken from the details saved on your account.

What if I want to stop the subscription?

The subscription is super flexible, so you can stop it at any time. You can also reactivate it at the click of a button, so if you are going on holiday or need a break, you can just resume the deliveries when you get back.

What if I don't want regular deliveries?

The good news is you don't have to have an active subscription with us to order a box of meals or extras. You can always keep your subscription stopped (paused) and order one-off boxes through our website instead. This means you can order whenever you wish. How do I calculate a cost?

We have a handy cost calculator on our homepage, which allows you to enter some details to get an average cost for your dog.
